At the age of 28, Sok Panha became a unique designer who designed bags made of pure cowhide, which embody the meaning with Khmer puppetry to show that this bag was made by a real Khmer child.
Sok Panha is currently the owner of a Ghechie clothing store in Phnom Penh. Although she is busy with the shop, she often takes time to create new bags that embody the Khmer identity because she loves and likes Cambodian culture.
Ms. Sok Panha told
“During 2018, she completed a short design course with a German teacher. After graduating, she started designing bags from her own ideas to embed in puppetry. Also.
The talented designer said that now she has a handbag product for women to use, in which she also integrates with the Khmer puppet theater, this handbag is long and shaped. Shorts that we make as an option for any woman who likes can order or buy at the store.
The Cambodian woman added that she had only been producing this handbag for a week, and the reason why she designed this bag for Khmer Puppet Theater was because she noticed that the support of Khmer Puppet Theater was gradually disappearing. Those who have tried to perform Khmer Puppetry on stage are discouraged to continue because there are not many people to visit like this, so she wants to bring the Puppet Theater with her bag for the Cambodian people when buying. The bag reminds me that Cambodia has the most beautiful Khmer puppet theater.
On the other hand, she remembers that Khmer Puppet Theater is rarely used by people to make bags. In part, it helps us to be able to advertise forever, because when customers buy a bag to take out, it is like helping to promote Khmer traditional art, of course, this bag can attract a lot of people, whether foreigners or Cambodians, will Know that our Cambodian children are not bad, can produce beautiful bags by embedding Khmer art on handbags.
Ms. Sok Panha confirmed that the bag that includes the puppet show is quite expensive because she chose to weave from pure yarn made with pure cowhide, which takes the idea from our Cambodian puppet show to be more dignified and choose raw materials. Very carefully, combined with the image of Hanuman released Rith.
